About Chess Problems
and Puzzles! (Part II)
In the last issue, I left you with a chess problem in
which White checkmates Black in 13 moves. I received a number of email
responses and 2 phone calls requesting for hints. Well, I hope that
some of you managed to solve it. Anyway, here goes.

Nice, eh?! I call it The Pony
Express!! (You get it? 4
'horses' delivering 'mate' - right across the board from h8 all the way to a1?!).
And to the composer of the problem, Mr. J. Mikitovics, "Thank you
very much Sir, you made my (our) day!"
In going through the mate, we are reminded of what
Tarrasch
once said: "Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy"
